Lady Wolves Lose Conference Game Against Malta At Home, 49-26
Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball team experienced a slow start and lost at home against Malta, 49-26, on Friday, Jan. 12.
After falling behind 6-0, the Wolves scored on a basket by Keeley Blount-Henderson off a pass from Sierra Hamilton with 2:51 left in the first quarter.
A fast-break hoop by Elly Anderson and three points by Kelbie Nelson put the M-ettes up 11-2, but Hamilton accounted for the last four points of the quarter to close the margin to 11-6.
Malta tallied the first six points of the second period, including a three-pointer by Anderson, but the Wolves fought back on a drive by Kashlyn Speak Thunder. Malta then struck for the next 10 points en route to a 29-10 half-time advantage.
After the M-ettes scored the first six points of the third quarter, Speak Thunder hit a basket off a rebound at the 4:20 mark. Three straight points by Azalei Ackerman got the Wolves as close as 3715. A three-pointer by Malta’s Anderson ended the third quarter with a 42-17 margin.
Speak Thunder scored the first four points of the fourth quarter, including a basket off an assist from Blount-Henderson, was a highlight for the Wolves.
Top scorers for the Wolves were Speak Thunder with 10 and Hamilton with nine points. Also scoring were Ackerman with three, Blount-Henderson with two and Ameliya Doney with two points.
Leading Malta were Neva Jacobson with 11, Anderson with 10 and Denvyr Tuss with 10 points.
