Indians Lose To Red Hawks
The Froid/Lake Red Hawks exploded for 13 points in the second quarter to down Poplar, 49-42, in non-conference girls’ basketball play on Thursday, Jan. 25.
The Red Hawks led 15-13 after the first quarter of play. Froid/Lake then ran off seven straight points on five points by Brooklyn Nordwick and a 16-footer by Mara Salvevold to open the second period.
After Poplar’s Braelyn Nordwick hit a free throw with 4:18 left in the half, Salvevold accounted for a steal and five points to put the Red Hawks ahead 27-14 with 1:32 left in the half. A free throw by Lilly Johnson increased the gap to 28-14. Poplar’s Nordwick made a free throw for a 28-15 score at the half.
Froid/Lake’s Addison Elvsaas connected on a three-pointer to put the Red Hawks ahead 36-17 early in the third quarter.
After free throws by Salvevold and Isabelle Nordwick produced a 39-21 margin, Poplar’s Kessee Erickson accounted for seven straight points to pull the Indians to 39-28.
Bailey Dupree fired in a three-pointer at the buzzer for a 39-31 margin at the end of the quarter.
Another basket by Erickson kept Poplar close at 41-33 early in the fourth period, but a drive by I. Nordwick and three free throws by B. Nordwick provided a 46-33 margin with under four minutes remaining.
Poplar’s top scorers were B. Nordwick with 12 and Erickson with 11 points. Also scoring were Cammie Martell with seven, Dupree with seven, Riki Belton with three and Mattie Falls Down with two points.
