Christoffersen Seeks District Judge Spot
Roosevelt County Attorney Janet Christoffersen has filed with the Montana Secretary of State to run for District Judge in District 15, Dept. 1. David Cybulski has held the position since 1994.
“I filed for District Court Judge for the 15th Judicial District as I am a Froid native and have spent almost all my life in northeastern Montana and am dedicated to the people and communities in our area,” Christoffersen said. “I further have 22 years of legal experience in civil, government and criminal law. As a result of my experience, I am ready for a new challenge and believe I can deliver fair, legally reasoned decisions. Finally, I recognized that Judge Cybulski may retire and, by filing, I have put myself in the running if he ultimately does.”
Christoffersen holds the county attorney position until Theresa Diekhans takes over the duties on Feb. 20, after county commissioners appointed Diekhans to the position. The county attorney position is up for election in 2024.
Prior to taking over the county attorney spot in Roosevelt County, Christoffersen’s experience included serving as the Richland County Attorney.
After Roosevelt County commissioners attempted to remove her from office citing the conclusion of a four-month agreement, Judge Michael Moses ruled in Christoffersen’s favor for a preliminary injunction barring the county from any action prohibiting her from performing the duties of county attorney.
