Froid/Lake Girls Come Back For Victory
Froid/Lake’s girls’ basketball team battled back for a 48-43 league victory in Savage on Saturday, Feb. 10.
Behind by a 27-20 halftime margin, the Red Hawks scored the last four points of the third quarter on a baseline shot by Mara Salvevold and two free throws by Brooklynn Nordwick to pull to 37-33.
Savage led by a 43-36 margin with less than four minutes remaining, but the Red Hawks accounted for the contest’s final 12 points for the victory.
Salvevold scored five straight points to put the Red Hawks up 44-43 with 1:45 remaining. A free throw by Jaeleigh Davidson increased the lead to 45-43 with 54 seconds left.
The Red Hawks added two free throws by Isabelle Nordwick and another free throw by B. Nordwick in the game’s final eight seconds.
In the boys’ contest, Savage clinched the top seed for the district by nipping the Red Hawks, 43-42.
Down by a 43-39 margin, the Red Hawks got as close as 43-42 on a three-point play by Nate Stentoft with 59 seconds remaining. The Red Hawks missed on a shot attempt with two seconds left. Top scorers for the Red Hawks were Stentoft with 18 and Mason Dethman with 17 points. Also scoring were Landon Kelm with three, Joseph Robertson with two and Daniel Forizs with two points.
Leading Savage were Connor Lyons with 18 and Cole Tombre with 10 points.
