Culbertson Track Expects To Compete Near Top Of District 2C

Culbertson returns three athletes who qualified for the Class C state track meet last season.

Top athletes back for Culbertson include Destiny Thompson in the javelin, Reese Moon in the 100 and long jump and Bridger Salvevold in the 100.

Thompson, a senior, placed third at the divisional meet in the javelin.

Moon, a junior, took seventh at the state meet in the long jump.

Salvevold, a junior, was the divisional champion in the 100 last season.

Other seniors for Culbertson include Mathew Wadsworth in sprints and jumps, and Nyreece Halvorson in the discus, shot put and sprints.

Culbertson has a turnout of 31 students including 18 boys.

Coach Dave Solem said the team’s strongest events should include sprints and jumps for both the boys’ and girls’ teams, and hopefully some middle and long distance runs.

“We want to get as many kids to state as possible and get each kid to show improvement at the end of the year from where they started,” Solem said. “Hopefully, we can bring home some trophies from the post-season meets.”

He sees Plentywood and Savage to be the top track teams in the district. “Hopefully, Culbertson is in the mix as well,” Solem said.
