Poetry Month Offerings, Little Free Library
The James E. Shanley Tribal Library and Fort Peck Headstart are offering a Little Free Library in partnership with Little Holy One and The Sunrise Project.
At press time, Tuesday, April 23, the LFL was scheduled for a debut at Poplar Cultural Center, where they will offer a selection of arts and crafts, bird feeders, flower planting, birdhouse painting and an array of meals/snacks. The LFL is designed for mobility and additional outreach activities are being planned.
April is National Poetry Month and the Tribal Library is offering recommendations from Fort Peck poet and elder Lois Red Elk. Her top picks for readers include The Trickster Riots by Tate Walker; Walking on Earth & Touching the Sky, edited by Timothy P. Mc-Laughlin, with a foreword by Joseph Marshall III, featuring poetry and prose by Lakota Youth at Red Cloud Indian School; Whereas, National Book Award winner by Layli Long Soldier; Lines From a Mined Mind by poet, actor, musician and political activist John Trudell, with a foreword by Louis Erdrich; Memory Songs by Lydia Whirlwind Soldier; Real Indian Junk Jewelry by Trevino L. Brings Plenty; Follow the Blackbirds by Gwen Nell Westerman;

by Jadina Lilien and Tiokasin Ghosthorse; I Remember the Fallen Trees by Elizabeth Cook Lynn; This Light Called Darkness, a Raven Chronicles Anthology with selected work from 1997-2005; Shedding Skins: Four Sioux Poets, with work by Trevino L. Thursday, April 25, will see the return of Open Mic Night, a forum for aspiring musicians, poets, comedians and performers of all ages to share in the spotlight and voice their talents. Performances begin at 6 p.m.
