Local Man Found Dead In Yellowstone County Jail

The Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office reported last week that a 23-year-old man apparently committed suicide at the Yellowstone County Detention Facility on Monday, July 15.

An officer discovered Cash Nelson of Wolf Point in his cell and unresponsive with a piece of cloth around his neck.

Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

The detective division and coroner’s division are conducting an investigation into the death.

Nelson was arrested by the Wolf Point Police Department in late January for the offenses of criminal endangerment, aggravated assault and fleeing or eluding law enforcement. At that time, he was taken to the tribal detention center in Poplar.
