After winning the regular-season conference title last season, the Wolf Point Wolves are looking forward to another successful volleyball campaign this year.

The Wolves are returning three starters and seven letter winners from last season. Kelly Blount-Henderson was an All-Conference second team selection last year. Other returning starters are Kashlyn Speak Thunder and Gabby Fourbear.

Nicole Paulson is the team’s new head coach after coaching at the junior high school level for nine years.

Assistant coaches are T’Elle Evans, Cody Larson and Shania Chavez.

“The girls are willing to learn from the new coaching staff and put in the work,” Paulson said. “We have a great group of young athletes from eighth and ninth grade that are bringing great skills to the team. The Upper classmen are bringing them under their wings, which is awesome to see.”

Serving is one area where the girls need to improve. “We will get there with a lot of repetition,” Paulson said. “We will have a young JV squad, but wow they have really stepped up and have impressed this new coaching staff with their hustle, skills and attitude. If they stick with it, they will be something to talk about and watch.”

Goals for the season include being the best serving team in the district, winning and losing with pride, learning from every practice and match, and playing hard and advancing farther in the post season.

“We are all learning this year with a completely new coaching staff and everyone is starting out with a clean slate and having to earn their spots on each team. We are seeing hard work from them to impress the new coaches,” Paulson said.

Teams expecting to battle near the top of the standings are Glasgow, Malta and Fairview.
