Indians Expect To Contend For Divisional Berth
With four returning starters, the Poplar Indians are shooting to move up in the conference standings this volleyball season.
Starters back for the Indians are Rebecca Gorder, Angelina Escarcega, Braelyn Nordwick and Quintana Young.
Other returning letterwinners are Lanie Moran and Toni Brown.
“My team is pretty young this year, but they are very eager to learn and grow as volleyball players,” Poplar Coach Janaeya Sutherland said.
Assistant coaches are Dusti Marottek and Natalie Weeks.
Communication on the court is one of the areas where the Indians need to improve during the season.
“Consistency is key to building any program,” Sutherland said. “I hope with me returning as head coach that it gives the girls more confidence on the court.”
One goal is to finish matches strong. “We had so many close matches last year but couldn’t seem to pull off the win in the end,” Sutherland said.
She expects Fairview, Malta and Poplar to be the teams near the top of the conference standings.
“The team overall has to build more trust and confidence in each other in order for us to achieve our goals,” Sutherland said.
