Red Hawks Aim To Stay Near Top Of Conference
The Froid/Lake Red Hawks aim to continue being a force in six-man football this season.
The Red Hawks have won two state titles and earned runner-up status once during the last four seasons. The Red Hawks graduated four All-State performers from last year’s squad. Froid/Lake opens this season with 12 players.
“I think we’re one of the smaller teams as far as numbers,” Coach Michael Reiter said. “Everybody will have to contribute in all ways.”
Returning starters for the Red Hawks include senior Joseph Robertson at quarterback and defensive end, senior Jacob Martensen at offensive end and defensive end and junior Cody Olson at safety. Olson is expected to move from safety to linebacker this season.
The Red Hawks were looking for big contributions from Owen Logan, but the junior will miss the season due to an injury.
“We were pretty senior-laden last year,” Reiter said. “We lost a lot. We’re going to miss those guys, but we have some talent back.”
Roberto Orozco, a senior, and Eddie Orozco, a sophomore, might provide some quickness to the team’s attack.
“I expect us to be competitive in every game we play,” Reiter said. “We need each of our guys to contribute every game to be successful.”
The battle for playoff spots is expected to be fairly wide open.
“I expect playoffs, I do,” Reiter said. “The conference is going to be competitive. I see Savage as the top dog probably.”
