Turns Around Celebration Sees 85 Dancers
The 17th annual Turns Around Celebration took place in Poplar last weekend. “It was a nice turnout,” Fort Peck Tribal Court Chief Judge Stacie FourStar told the Northern Plains Independent.
“I was happy to see all the local dancers and some visitors. There was a good mix of specials for all ages. My daughters enjoyed dancing and had a great time!”
Celebration organizers said there were 85 registered dancers and lots of tiny tots, as well as eight drums and seven vendors. Headwoman Dancer was Mystic Young and Headman Dancer was Ronald Fast Horse.
Jr. Mae Smith was the celebration princess. Princess attendant was Mariah Carpentier. Blaize Firemoon was junior princess and Georgia Good Bird was junior princess attendant. Miley Crawford was senior traveling princess and Kristina Alexander was junior traveling princess. Specials were offered by Deryan Young, the Dolly Stark family, Lucy White Eyes and others.
