Partnership Encourages Travelers To Explore Montana, Canada
A new international partnership between Montana’s Missouri River Country and Canada’s South Saskatchewan Ready labeled “Beyond the 49th Parallel” is encouraging travelers to cross the U.S.-Canada border — the 49th parallel — for an international journey to explore the neighboring small towns, historic sites and opportunities for outdoor recreation.
“Pairing Canada’s South Saskatchewan and Montana’s Missouri River Country provides an international travel experience like no other,” said Carla Hunsley, executive director of Missouri River Country. “Here, travelers can enjoy prime recreation spots and explore a variety of attractions and attend festivals, rodeos and fairs that bring visitors and our welcoming small-town residents together.”
The Beyond the 49th Parallel partnership includes a new website, complete with travel inspiration and detailed itineraries to help travelers plan a two-nation vacation between Missouri River Country and South Saskatchewan. The website also provides tips for a smooth trip from one country to the other for travelers for whom crossing international boundaries in a car is a new experience.
Highlights from the travel itineraries include visiting historic points of interest and local golf courses. The content also provides detailed recommendations for food, lodging and event information to help travelers maximize their trip to each region. Both regions are known for having rich histories, scenic prairies, welcoming small towns and opportunities for camping, hiking and other outdoor activities.
A sample trip featured in the program includes starting in Coronach, Saskatchewan, for the Old Coronach Street Festival, heading south to Fort Peck to watch a play at the historic Fort Peck Summer Theatre and then playing a round of disc golf at The Fortress, located near the Fort Peck Dam.
“In a single trip, with a simple crossing of the 49th parallel, travelers can see the breathtaking sunsets that are a hallmark of South Saskatchewan’s ‘Living Skies’ and the mesmerizing stargazing in the night skies of Missouri River Country, some of the darkest in the continental U.S.,” said Sharon Adam, chair of South Saskatchewan Ready. “Our relationship with northeast Montana is a historic one that spans more than 100 years, and we are excited about this new partnership to deepen our connection.”
