Culbertson Competes At Tournament
The Culbertson Cowgirls enjoyed a good measure of success during the 14-team Scobey Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The Cowgirls competed in pool A of the volleyball tournament. Culbertson finished with a 2-2 record.
After falling to Froid/Lake to open the tournament, the Cowgirls bounced back with a solid victory over Lustre Christian.
Culbertson then downed Wibaux, 25-15, 25-9.
The solid net play by Jazzmin Fugere, Mariana Burciaga and Emma Berwick led the Cowgirls to a 10-3 advantage in the first set.
An ace by Fugere and a block by Berwick increased the margin to 15-6. The Cowgirls then ran off the next six points for a 21-6 margin.
After the Cowgirls gained a 24-10 advantage, Wibaux battled back to 24-15 but Culbertson then earned the final point.
A kill by Fugere and the serving of Berwick helped Culbertson gain an 11-1 lead in the second set. Serenity Wilbanks scored a kill and Fugere had a spike for a 14-6 lead.
Fugere then delivered an ace for a 17-7 margin, and the Cowgirls kept rolling to take a 23-7 lead. Culbertson went on for a 25-9 win.
The Cowgirls fell short against Bainville, 10-25, 2325, in their final match of the day.
