WPCO Donates Funds For Events

Members of the Wolf Point Community Organization approved a series of donations during its monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 16.

The group’s activities committee approved two recipients during its portion of the meeting.

Members approved $1,000 for the trunk or treat activity to be held outside of First Lutheran Church in Wolf Point.

Members also approved $13,000 for a brunch elder feed at Wolf Point’s community hall. The elders, ages 62 years or above, will also receive gift cards. The brunch took place on Sunday, Sept. 22.

The youth programs committee approved about $800 to cover registration costs for Wolf Point’s soccer program. Registration fee is $15 for student.

In her report, tribal executive board member Roxanne Gourneau mentioned that the tribes have 33 job openings. The board is trying to figure out a way to have more people become interested in the positions. She also said that daycare needs caretakers and custodians.

Gourneau expressed community concerns as cleaning out abandoned houses, removing trash on streets and taking care of the elderly.

“That’s all depends on us,” she said.

Darryn Ricker Sr. talked about his desire to bring the AAU state cross country championships to Wolf Point. He said the meet used to be held in Hardin.

The meet would be for ages 8-18.

“My goal is to get all the reservations here and anybody that wants to come,” Ricker said.
