Book Blast is promoting reading for all grades at Northside Elementary School this month.

“It’s an opportunity for students to earn books,” Principal Georgie Gourneau said about the promotion for 4-6 grades.

She notes that each student receives one free book and then a treasure map to fill out. After parents take care of registration online, students are urged to email 10 family members or friends to sponsor them by purchasing a book.

In addition, community stakeholders can donate funds for the project by sending a check to Northside Elementary School and putting “Book Blast” on the memo line.

“The goal is to promote reading,” Gourneau said.

The program started on Monday, Sept. 16.

“There are rewards,” Gourneau noted. “For kids who complete their treasure maps, there are prizes.”

The four grand prize winners will be presented with a small treasure chess. The “ultimate winner” through a random drawing will receive an ipad.

Gourneau said when the books arrive from the Book Blast company that the school will hold a party to celebrate.
