The Wolf Point Food Pantry will start operating on different hours beginning in October, said volunteer Gary Johnson.

Starting on Tuesday, Oct. 8, the food pantry will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. That is a change from the 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. hours of operations.

“We’re struggling to find enough help,” Johnson explained. “The primary reason is everybody that helps us are old, retired people. Five hours was too much physically.”

Johnson said the food pantry serves about 250 families or 1,000 individuals each time the service is available.

“We give out 6,000 pounds of food every time we’re open,” Johnson said. “We’re struggling to find enough money and volunteers.”

If interested in helping the food pantry, call Johnson at 406-650-7040.

“We always need money,” he added. He noted the majority of the food is purchased at a reduced price from the Montana Food Bank Network.

Johnson and other volunteers reopened the food pantry in the spring of 2022.

“My philosophy is if a couple of kids don’t go to bed hungry, we’re doing good,” Johnson said.
