The Roosevelt County Commissioners renewed the county’s lease with the Motor Vehicle Division during their meeting held on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
The lease will run from Jan. 1, 2025, to Dec. 31, 2029.
“We don’t charge them. We use it as a service to Roosevelt County,” Commissioner Gordon Oelkers said.
The leased area is Suite 116, which consists of 210 gross square feet.
Commissioners approved the hiring of Robert Russ Corbell as a full-time deputy. He was scheduled to start duties on Oct. 1. Also hired was Dana Oleyte as a custodian for the Roosevelt County Library.
Commissioners approved paying $4,778 to pay for a new firewall and router for IT.
During the public comment portion of the meeting, a resident asked if there was any update regarding the proposed Eastern Montana Fertilizer Project east of Culbertson.
“We haven’t heard a word since July,” Oelkers said.
The fertilizer project is planned to be constructed near Culbertson by Cyan H2 LLC, The project is estimated to cost about $1.6 billion. The hope is that the lone public assistance will come from a loan from the U.S. Department of Energy that will be paid off with interest.
Early estimates are that the project will create 3,200 jobs including 2,000 during the construction phase, 200 permanent jobs and 1,000 of in-direct jobs created through economic opportunities.
