Wolves Beat Roundup For Second Victory Of Season
Wolf Point’s power running attack was too much for Roundup to handle as the Wolves crushed the Panthers, 34-0, for their second win of the football season.
The Wolves struck on their first possession of the game with a 39-yard drive highlighted by the running of Jesse Reed. A 23-yard dash by J. Reed produced a first down at the one. From there, the sophomore scored with 8:40 left in the opening quarter.
Later in the quarter, Wolf Point put together a 63-yard drive led by the hard running of Mike Bell. After the senior fullback picked up a first down at the Roundup 21, J. Reed broke loose for a touchdown run with 52 seconds left in the quarter. Quarterback Kasey Reed got in for the conversion and a 14-0 advantage.
The Panthers responded by driving inside Wolf Point territory, but the threat ended on tackles by sophomore lineman Zandon Calder.
Wolf Point quickly moved to midfield on runs by J. Reed and Bell. J. Reed reached the end zone on a 21-yard run with 34 seconds remaining in the half. K. Reed ran in the conversion for a 22-0 lead.
Roundup’s first possession of the third quarter ended on a bad snap while in punt formation. J. Reed tackled the punter at the Roundup 14.
Wolf Point went on to score on a seven-yard smash by Bell for a 28-0 lead.
A 22-yard run by J. Reed put the Wolves in scoring position to end the third quarter. The Wolves got as deep as the Roundup 15 but came away empty handed on that threat.
Wolf Point’s defense got in the scoring act when Jayden Dominique intercepted a pass and raced 23 yards for a touchdown with 8:13 remaining.
The Panthers marched into Wolf Point territory on their next possession, but a tackle for loss by Calder helped end the threat.
The Wolves finished with 268 rushing and 296 total yards.
Leading the rushing attack were J. Reed with 121 yards and Bell with 103 yards.
Having eight total tackles each for the Wolves were Calder, Sam Boysun, Bell and Sean Hamilton.
Wolf Point will host Malta for its homecoming game on Friday, Oct. 11.
