Wolf Point JVs Score Win Over Lustre
In a five-set volleyball battle, Wolf Point’s JVs edged Lustre by a 29-27, 25-22, 13-15, 9-15, 15-4, final on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
The first set was a cliffhanger as Wolf Point moved ahead 26-25 on a spike by McKenzie Rodenberg and an ace by AnnaLeigh Matejovsky, but Lustre tied the score on a kill by Hannah Brown.
With the score deadlocked at 27-27, the Wolves struck for the final two points on a kill and tip by Mattie Azure.
Wolf Point controlled the early part of the second set. A tip by Adalyn Smith and the strong serving of Maia Kent led the way to an 18-7 advantage. The Lions were able to fight back to 19-14 on the net play of Natalie Fast and serving of Abby Olfert, but Wolf Point went on to take a 25-22 win.
Lustre accounted for the first seven points of the third set. Wolf Point got as close as 14-9 on the serving of McKinlee Paulson and Kent, but the Lions earned a 15-9 victory.
Brown’s serving led the Lions to a 13-7 lead in the fourth set before two aces by Matejovsky closed the gap to 13-11. The Lions scored on kills by Lauren Holzrichter down the stretch for the 15-12 win.
The play of Smith, hitting of Matejovsky and serving of Aniya Smoker led the Wolves to a 13-3 lead in the fifth set. A kill by Matejovsky put the margin at 14-3 en route to the 15-4 victory.
