Cannabis Sales Reaching New Heights In County
Cannabis sales seems to be hitting new height in Roosevelt County.
For the month of September, the Montana Department of Revenue reports $515,811 in estimated cannabis sales in the county. That translates to $17,193 spent in the county daily on legal cannabis sales.
Sales in Roosevelt County were $441,671 in March, $413,116 in April, $439,639 in May, $403,732 in June and $416,713 in July.
The amount of sales increased in Roosevelt County to $530,040 in August.
In 2022, Roosevelt County residents approved to have a 3 percent tax on the retail value of all medical marijuana and a 3 percent tax on the retail value of all non-medical marijuana sold within the county.
The county received $33,667.84 for the second quarter from the local option tax. Of those funds, 50 percent go to the sheriff’s budget for law enforcement. The other 50 percent are divided between the county’s cities and towns based on population.
Neighboring Richland County has a reported $952,601 of cannabis sales during September. That amount is $30,729 spent daily.
Sales in Richland County reached $1,015,490 for the month of August.

Top counties for sales in September were Yellowstone at $4,432,053, Gallatin at $4,381,634 and Missoula at $3,297,402. The monthly sales for the entire state during September were $27,520,406, which was a decrease from $29,716,881 in August.
