Officers Elected For JOM Committee
New officers were elected during the Wolf Point School District’s JOM (Johnson- O’Malley) committee meeting held at the high school on Monday, Oct. 7.
Imogene Lilley accepted the position as chairman for the school year.
Also elected were Holly Hamilton as vice chair and Mandi Campbell as secretary.
The group meets at 5:30 p.m. in the library on the first Monday of each month.
Committee members then worked on the budget for the current school year. Funding is anticipated to be about $27,000.
It was agreed to provide schools funds based on $15 per student. Current estimated enrollment figures include 151 at Southside, 137 at Northside, 87 at the junior high school and 166 at the high school.
JOM provides caps and gowns for graduations. Estimated cost is $2,200.
Committee members agreed to have the organization pay for students’ activity tickets above fourth grade. Cut off date to take advantage of the JOM’s payment is Nov. 1. Parents should contact schools for more information.
The group also discussed possible speakers for Native American Heritage Month in November.
Dr. Joseph McGeshick provided an update of Native American traditional stories being put together on film with Fort Peck Community College. In a prior year, JOM has committed $5,000 to the project.
McGeshick said the first Assiniboine film features the story of Rocky Point regarding the smallpox epidemic in the 1830s.
The project has featured Scott Smoker as choreographer and Mike Turcotte as narrator. The group is now called Fort Peck Reservation Stories and Film.
