Brockton Drops Game In Bainville
The Bainville Bulldogs punched their ticket to the six-man football players with a 54-6 home victory over Brockton on Thursday, Oct. 17.
The Bulldogs accounted for 41 of their points during the first quarter of the conference game.
Bainville opened the contest with a 43-yard scoring drive. After a pass from Rowan Wilson to Trevor Robertus moved the ball to the Brockton 34, the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard when Isaiah Bjorge caught a short pass and raced to the end zone.
Strong defensive plays by Bjorge, Rylan Iverson and Kaiden Holmes stopped Brockton on its first possession. A strike from Wilson to Bjorge covered 18 yards for a touchdown and a 12-0 lead with 7:37 left in the first quarter.
Bainville’s next touchdown came in a flash when Robertus, a senior, intercepted a pass and went 24 yards for a touchdown. Robertus kicked the conversion for a 20-0 advantage.
The running and passing of Colter Nygard led the Warriors into Bainville territory on their next possession, but the Warriors were stopped short on a fourth-and-eight play.
Taking over on their own 33, the Bulldogs marched into scoring position on nice runs by freshman Kyn Beery. On first down at the six, Beery scored with 5:29 remaining in the period. Wilson passed to Holmes for the conversion and a 27-0 lead.
Defensive pressure by Lane Giese and Bjorge stopped Brockton on its next possession, and the Bulldogs took over on the Brockton 18.
After a dash by Bjorge to the six, Wilson connected with Parker Berwick for a touchdown to put the margin at 33-0 with 4:06 left in the first quarter.
Bainville’s final touchdown of the quarter came on an eight-yard throw from Wilson to Robertus with 2:34 on the clock. Austin Eveland kicked the conversion for a 41-0 lead.
After a scoreless second quarter, the Warriors drove inside the Bainville 15 to open the second half. A pass to Thomas Black Dog and a defensive pass interference call highlighted the possession. The threat ended on a fourthdown incompletion.
Bainville reached the end zone on a 66-yard run by Holmes with 5:28 left in the period. Wilson ran in the conversion for a 48-0 margin.
The Bulldogs’ final touchdown was scored by Beery on a 34-yard run with 8:52 remaining in the game.
Brockton then put together a 65-yard scoring drive. Passes from Nygard to Black Dog and Quannah First That Walks put the ball into Bainville territory. A 20-yard pass play from Nygard to First That Walks produced a first down at the six. The Warriors went on to score on a threeyard throw from Nygard to First That Walks with 1:12 left.
