Lustre Drops Match To Cowgirls

 

The Culbertson Cowgirls edged Lustre Christian during conference volleyball play in Lustre on Monday, Oct. 21.

Culbertson came away with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-17, victory.

The Cowgirls held a 2013 advantage in the first set until Lustre struck for seven straight points including aces by Abby Olfert and a block by Jaden Gibson.

Culbertson regained the lead on a kill by Mariana Burciaga and an ace by Emma Berwick, but the Lions cut the gap to 22-21 on a block by Gibson. Lustre pulled even at 23-23 on a kill by Gibson, but the Cowgirls won the last two points including one on a kill by Jazzmin Fugere.

The Cowgirls trailed early in the second set. A spike by Hannah Brown and a combined block by Olfert and Kencia Brown provided Lustre with a 21-17 lead.

Culbertson battled back to 21-21 on a kill by Catherine Donaldson and aces by Fugere. Two net winners by Berwick put Culbertson ahead by a 24-21 margin.

Fugere served an ace to end the second set.

The third set was close at 16-12 until three aces by Ayden Ator helped the Cowgirls take a 20-12 advantage.

Kills by Berwick, Fugere and Leandra Perkins increased Culbertson’s lead to 23-15.

With the score at 24-17, the Cowgirls ended the match on a kill by Burciaga.

The district volleyball tournament starts Thursday, Oct. 31, in Plentywood.

The Lions will meet Mon-Dak in the first round at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
