Cowgirls Defeat Frazer, MonDak
Culbertson defeated Frazer by a 25-14, 25-10, 25-9, margin on Friday morning.
The Cowgirls were ahead by only an 8-5 margin early in the first set until striking for 10 straight points. Three aces by Jazzmin Fugere and kills by Mariana Burciaga and Emma Berwick led the Cowgirls’ streak. Frazer’s Maci Fourstar-Sibley accounted for a kill and ace to close the gap to 208. After Culbertson’s Bella Petersen served an ace, the Bearcubs battled back to 2414 on kills by Baily Beston. The Cowgirls ended the set on a block by Josie Simonsen.
The strong serve of Ayden Ator helped Culbertson gain a 6-0 lead in the second set. Leandra Perkins served aces to put the Cowgirls ahead 14-3. Kills by Fugere and Burciaga led Culbertson to a 19-3 advantage.
Frazer tallied two points on aces by BriAnna Beston, but an ace by Catherine Donaldson led Culbertson to a 25-10 win.
Kills by Emma Berwick, Fugere and Serenity Wilbanks highlighted early parts of the third set as Culbertson grabbed a 12-3 lead. The Cowgirls received kills by Simonsen and Fugere down the stretch resulted in the 25-9 final.
The Culbertson Cowgirls kept their volleyball season alive with a solid victory over MonDak at the district volleyball tournament on Friday, Nov. 1.
The Cowgirls came away with a 25-10, 24-26, 25-14, 258, victory.
Culbertson jumped out to a 15-4 advantage in the first set as the serving of Leandra Perkins played a big role. The Cowgirls went on to a 25-10 win in the set.
After dropping a 26-24 decision in the second set, Culbertson gained an 11-4 lead in the third set on kills by Mariana Burciaga and Jazzmin Fugere. Ahead by only an 11-7 margin, Culbertson struck for four straight points including an ace by Ivy Colvin, a tip by Ayden Ator and a kill by Fugere.
The net play of Emma Berwick and serving of Ator led the Cowgirls to a 22-12 advantage. With the score at 23-14, the Cowgirls ended the third set with two kills by Burciaga.
Kills by Fugere and Burciaga led Culbertson to a 14-10 lead in the fourth set. Culbertson increased the gap to 17-11 on a tip by Ator, a spike by Berwick and an ace by Burciaga.
After a block and ace by Berwick produced a 21-14 lead, MonDak fought back to 22-16. A hit by Serenity Wilbanks was good for a 2316 advantage. The Cowgirls accounted for the last two points of the match on kills by Burciaga.
