The Lustre Lions gained a 38-point advantage in the first half and cruised to a 75-28 victory over Plevna to start their boys’ basketball season on Friday, Dec. 6.

The Cougars kept things close at 6-3 during the game’s first three minutes, but the Lions then started to roll with a basket by Joel Reddig and a dunk by Johnslee Pierre.

A free throw by Clay Reddig, a hoop by J. Reddig and a fast-break drive by Cam Reddig extended the lead to 15-3. The Lions kept going as an inside shot by Byron Ewing, a drive by Clay Reddig and a free throw by J. Reddig put the margin at 20-3.

Hadden Olfert accounted for a hoop at the buzzer to put Lustre ahead by a 22-6 margin at the end of the first quarter.

The Lions then exploded for the first 22 points of the second period. Three-point shots by Prestyn Klatt and the inside scoring of Pierre highlighted play early as the Lions moved ahead 32-6. Baskets by Clay Reddig, H. Olfert and D. Olfert helped Lustre take a 44-6 advantage. The Lions led 50-12 at the half.

The Lions then struck for the first five points of the third quarter on two baskets by Cam Reddig and a free throw by Pierre. The scoring of Pierre and Ewing led Lustre to a 68-20 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

Reaching double figures for Lustre were Pierre with 17, H. Olfert with 11, Cam Reddig with 10 and J. Reddig with 10 points.

Rounding out the scoring were Ewing with seven, Klatt with six, D. Olfert with five, Clay Reddig with five and Wheeler Damboise with four.
