Poplar Wins Non-conference Game In Culbertson, 67-39
A hot shooting Poplar team posted a 67-39 non-conference victory in Culbertson during boys’ basketball action on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Down by a 13-8 margin at the end of the opening quarter, Culbertson fought back to 13-2 on four straight points by Dawson Bergum to begin the period.
Poplar responded with the next 12 points including seven points by Wilder Bearcub, a three-pointer by Ryder Olson and a basket by Keilen Erickson.
The Cowboys battled back to 25-16 on baskets by Mark Kirkaldie and Bridger Salvevold.
A pair of inside shots by Walker Burshia led the Indians to a 31-17 lead late in the half, but two free throws by Kaden Featherston cut the gap to 31-19.
Culbertson’s Gavin Deen opened the third quarter with a basket, but Poplar’s Chasen Pribbernow responded with a pair of three-pointers.
After Culbertson’s Kirkaldie scored at the 3:19 mark for a 42-27 game, the Indians struck for eight straight points on a three-pointer by Kaniel Ricker, a three-pointer by Blake Lambert and a basket by Olson for a 50-27 lead.
A basket off a rebound by Burshia and another three-pointer by Ricker put the Indians ahead 55-29 after three quarters of play.
Culbertson’s top scorers were Salvevold with 11 and Bergum with eight points.
Rounding out Culbertson’s scoring were Kirkaldie with six, Deen with six, Cal Steppler with three, Featherston with two, Jaden Iron Moccasin with two and Ian Snyder with one.
