Cowgirls Fall Short Against Fusion Cowgirls Fall Short Against Fusion

After a close first half, the Culbertson Cowgirls lost by a 50-37 margin against Richey/ Lambert on Friday, Dec. 20.

The Cowgirls trailed in the home game by an 11-5 margin at the end of the first quarter and were down 20-9 four minutes into the second period.

Culbertson then scored on a basket by Payton Labatte off a nice pass from Emma Berwick. A three-pointer by Keira Rains put the Fusion ahead 23-11.

The Cowgirls responded with the last six points of the half on a basket by Kalia Featherston and two hoops by Leandra Perkins to pull to 23-17.

Culbertson then opened the third quarter with six quick points on a free throw by Labatte, a basket off a rebound by Mariana Burciaga and a three-pointer by Ayden Ator for a 23-23 deadlock.

Holding a 28-27 lead later in the period, Richey/Lambert hit six of the last seven points of the third quarter for a 34-28 advantage.

The Fusion opened the fourth period with a three-pointer by Rains and a layup by Brynne Hill. After Culbertson’s Ivy Colvin scored for a 39-30 score with 7:22 remaining, the Fusion reeled off the next nine points. Hill scored five of those points.

Perkins led the Cowgirls with 16 points. Also scoring were Ator with six, Colvin with four, Burciaga with four, Labatte with three, Featherston with two and Bella Petersen with two.

Leading the Fusion with Rains with 19 and Hill with 17 points.
