City’s Parks Committee To Recommend Selling Park
The City of Wolf Point’s parks and recreation committee met Thursday, Dec. 19, to discuss the possibility of selling Triangle Park.
Town Pump has expressed interest in purchasing the park to expand their business at the location on the corner of Blaine Street and U.S. Highway 2.
Council members Lance FourStar, Carrie Manning and Dean Mahlum, along with Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak and city clerk Jhona Peterson, discussed the pros and cons of offering the park for sale. Cons included losing a green space along U.S. Highway, while pros included allowing a business the opportunity to grow within the community and an increase in safety in the area.
Wolf Point Town Pump location manager Noreen Hohman noted that the potential expansion of the store would result in the addition of about 10 new positions and allow a wider variety of items to be carried in the store.
The committee members voted 2-1 with FourStar and Mahlum voting in favor of recommending to the full council that the city offer the park for sale.
The full city council will make the final decision on whether or not to offer the park for sale at their next meeting. If the council approves a resolution to offer the park for sale, the park would be offered for sale by bid.
