Lustre Boys Run To 72-19 Home Win


Lustre’s boys’ basketball squad ended the pre-Christmas break portion of its season with a dominating 72-19 victory over conference foe Nashua on Thursday, Dec. 19.
The Lions roared out to a 15-1 start in the home game. After Clay Reddig opened the scoring with a drive, Byron Ewing scored off a fast-break pass from Johnslee Pierre.
Nashua got on the scoreboard when Bubba Pugh connected on a pair of free throws with 6:31 remaining in the opening quarter.
Lustre responded with a pair of hoops by Ewing and a drive by Clay Reddig. After Cam Reddig drove in for a basket, a free throw by Cam Reddig and a drive by Clay Reddig put the margin at 15-1.
The Porcupines received a lift when Blaze Bleazard hit a three-pointer, but Pierre responded with a three-pointer and Joel Reddig scored for a 20-4 advantage.
Nashua closed the gap to 20-8 on four straight points, including a three-pointer at the buzzer, to end the quarter.
Three-pointers by Clay Reddig, Prestyn Klatt and Cam Reddig led the Lions to a 32-11 advantage during the first three minutes of the second quarter.
Lustre exploded for the last 21 points of the half for a 53-11 margin. Three-pointers by Klatt and Clay Reddig started the outburst. Baskets by Pierre, Cam Reddig, Klatt, Diek Olfert and Christopher Traeholt increased the lead to 48-11. After a three-pointer by J. Reddig, Olfert added a basket at the buzzer to end the half. The Lions outscored Nashua by a 6-2 margin in the third quarter and by a 13-6 margin in the fourth quarter.
Reaching double figures for Lustre were Clay Reddig with 12, Klatt with 11 and Pierre with 10 points.
Also scoring were Cam Reddig with eight, J. Reddig with seven, Ewing with seven, Olfert with six, Kayden Charette with five, Hadden Olfert with four and Traeholt with two.
Scoring for Nashua were Pugh with nine, Noah Leckie with seven and Blaze Bleazard with three.
The Lions will travel to Frazer on Jan. 3, and host Bainville on Jan. 4.
