Lustre Boys Drop Home Contest Against Circle
Lustre’s boys’ basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season when the Lions were edged by Circle, 51-48, on Saturday, Jan. 11.
The Lions held a 16-15 halftime lead and a 33-27 advantage after three quarters of play.
The Wildcats, however, enjoyed a great start of the fourth quarter and gained a 47-40 lead when Owen Beery hit two free throws with 1:50 remaining.
Lustre battled back to 4746 on three-pointers by Clay Reddig and Cam Reddig.
After a pair of free throws by Circle’s Duke Williamson, Lustre’s Clay Reddig drove in for a basket to pull the Lions to 49-48 with 34 seconds left.
Beery connected on two free tosses to put the Wildcats up 51-48 with 10 seconds left. The Lions missed on two final three-point attempts, including one that was blocked by Beery.
Lustre’s top scorers were Clay Reddig with 14, Cam Reddig with 12 and Prestyn Klatt with 12 points.
Also scoring were Johnslee Pierre with four, Byron Ewing with four and Diek Olfert with two.
Leading Circle were Beery with 19, Williamson with 13 and Xavier Nasner with 13 points.
In the girls’ game, Circle earned a 61-18 victory.
Circle led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and 29-9 at the half.
Kencia Brown scored eight points for the Lions.
Also scoring were Lauryn Holzrichter with six, Lauren Fast with two and Ashtyn Traeholt with two.
Top scorers for the Wildcats were Madeline Moline with 25 and Charlie Moline with 11 points.
The Lions will travel to North Country on Friday and host Scobey on Saturday.
