Brockton Suffers League Loss Against Red Hawks

 

Froid/Lake’s girls’ basketball team’s man-to-man defense led the way as the Red Hawks earned a 40-27 victory in Brockton on Thursday, Jan. 9.

After leading by only a 6-4 margin at the end of first quarter, the Red Hawks opened the second quarter with the first nine points. A pull-up jumper by Isabelle Nordwick and a basket by Keira Stentoft put Froid/Lake ahead 10-4.

Stentoft then hit a three-pointer and Leah Murray connected on a 16-footer for a 15-4 advantage.

A three-point play by Ava LoneBear closed the gap to 15-7 with 2:22 left in the half. The Red Hawks held a 17-9 half-time lead.

Froid/Lake led by a 24-18 margin after three quarters of play, but a free throw by Bauer and two free tosses by Marlene Fish closed the gap to 26-21 with 6:38 remaining.

The Red Hawks responded with a three-pointer by Murray. After Brockton’s Bauer hit a 15-footer, free throws by Mara Salvevold and I. Nordwick were good for a 32-23 margin.

The scoring of Bauer kept the Warriors close at 32-26, but Froid/Lake scored eight of the last nine points including four on free throws by I. Nordwick.

Top scorers for the Red Hawks were I. Nordwick with 10, Brooklyn Nordwick with nine and Salvevold with eight points.

Also scoring were Murray with five, Stentoft with five and Addison Elvsaas with three.

Bauer scored 14 of Brockton’s points. Also scoring were Claire Clampitt with four, Quintana Young with four, LoneBear with three and Fish with two.
