Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Report
The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office responded to 74 calls from Jan. 13-20.
The calls included: Jan. 13
Deputy assisted Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice at the Indian Health Services clinic in Poplar with a report of verbal harassment.
Deputies assisted five FPTDLJ officers and Montana Highway Patrol with a high speed pursuit that started in Poplar at about 4:53 p.m. Tim Todd was charged with eluding by the FPTDLJ after spike strips were deployed to stop the vehicle east of Wolf Point. He was taken to the tribal jail.
A deputy did a welfare check at 5:20 p.m. on a woman who was walking on U.S. Highway 2 between Wolf Point and Frazer. The woman stated she had just been released from the hospital and was trying to get to Frazer. The deputy transported her to the county line and a Valley County Sheriff’s deputy took her to Frazer.
At 9:13 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to a request for assistance from a woman who stated that people had been locked out of a house. The deputy assisted the woman by getting her back into the house.
Jan. 14
A deputy responded to a report of a fire in Culbertson at 8:14 a.m. Upon arrival, the deputy located a small fire pit smoldering in the yard. The deputy knocked on the door of the home, but no one answered. He used a shovel to use snow to extinguish it.
At 3:21 p.m., a deputy/coroner responded to a report of an unattended death in the Froid area. The deputy conducted an investigation and assisted the funeral home with removing the body. Foul play is not suspected.
The Wolf Point City Police Department received assistance by the Fort Peck Tribes Criminal Investigators and a county deputy with a robbery investigation in Wolf Point. Two masked men had entered a business, threw a rock at an employee and stole products. The suspects have been identified.
At 11:46 p.m., a deputy was called to the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office for an adult female who stated she’d just been released from the Wolf Point hospital but was still in pain and asked if the deputy could transport her to the Poplar hospital. The deputy transported her as requested.
Jan. 15
A civil dispute over some property was reported in Froid at 11:42 a.m. one person was claiming another person was taking property. A deputy responded and referred the matter to civil court.
At 6:31 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to a report of windows being broken out of a home within the Poplar city limits by the caller’s girlfriend. The deputy investigated, took pictures of the broken windows and referred the case to tribal court.
At 10:18 p.m., a report of two adults verbally arguing in Poplar tribal housing. The parties had left before the deputy arrived and were not located.
Jan. 16
A fight in progress near Main Street Grocery in Poplar was reported at 5 p.m. Two males were fighting when the deputy arrived. FPTDLJ also responded to the call. Both males were detained while witnesses were interviewed to determine the primary aggressor. One male was arrested for disorderly conduct. The second male was defending himself and was not charged.
Jan. 17
A deputy and deputy/coroner were called to the Poplar hospital for a report of a deceased infant. The FPT Criminal Investigators are investigating.
Jan. 18
A deputy responded to Brockton tribal housing at 11 p.m. at the request of an adult male who said his daughter was intoxicated and flipping out. She left before the deputy arrived and was not located.
Jan. 19
A deputy and FPTDLJ were dispatched to a church in Poplar at 1:17 p.m. that an adult male had interrupted the church service and claimed he had been threatened with a gun. The male was arrested for making false reports to law enforcement.
At 7:39 p.m., a deputy and the FPTDLJ responded to Wolf Point tribal housing for a report of an adult female harassing elders. The female was arrested on two warrants and transported to the tribal jail in Poplar.
