Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball team put together an excellent and exciting comeback in the fourth quarter but fell just short, 50-47, against Fairview at home on Friday, Jan. 24.

The Wolves trailed 39-31 at the end of the third quarter and Fairview increased the margin to 43-31 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Down 45-33 with under four minutes remaining, the Wolves gained momentum on a three-pointer by Roper Flaten at the 3:37 mark. A pair of free throws of Sean Hamilton cut the margin to 45-38. After a blocked shot by Zandon Calder, Rebel Mays drove in for a hoop to put the gap at five points.

A free throw by Tyler Loan increased Fairview’s lead, but Calder connected on a turnaround shot to cut the margin to 46-42 with 1:46 to play. The Warriors responded with the next four points on a basket by Keegan Skogas off a pass from Loan and a layup by Wyatt McPherson.

The Wolves stayed in contention on another turnaround shot by Calder with 58 seconds remaining. Jett Azure fired a three-pointer for a 50-47 game with 31 seconds left. After the Warriors missed on two free-throw attempts, the Wolves came up empty on a three-point try in the final seconds.

Wolf Point started the conference game off well as Calder scored the final six points of the first quarter for a 10-7 lead.

Fairview opened the second quarter with the first 12 points of the second period as Skogas scored five points and Troy Karst added four. The Warriors went on to hold a 27-17 half-time advantage.

Calder led the Wolves with 21 points.

Also scoring were Mays with six, Flaten with six, Richard Campbell with five, Hamilton with four, Azure with three and Da’Shaun Jackson with two.

Reaching double figures for the Warriors were Karst with 13, Loan with 11 and Skogas with 11 points.
