Students Places At State Meet

Culbertson High School sent nine team members off to compete in Huntley Project at the Class B/C State Speech, Drama and Debate tournament Jan. 31-Feb.1.
More than 300 competitors from 47 schools led by 79 coaches competed, chauffeured by 46 bus drivers.
“Competition was stiff,” said coach Jeri Gustafson, “but the tournament was one of the best run state events ever put together. Over 331 judging slots were filled by 101 volunteer judges. The logistics of which are overwhelming in and of themselves.”
When the two days of competition were over, eight CHS students competed six rounds of competition, with four students coming home with state medals.
Placing and earning sweepstakes points were Josie Simonsen with a first place in memorized public address. Harrison Green placed third in impromptu. Harper Anderson took fourth place in dramatic solo.
Peyton Jahns took eighth place in program oral interpretation. Sublime Cady competed in dramatic interpretation, as did Kaylee Kohl, along with Jaxon Flinn in informative speaking and Felixe Becker in original oratory.
Gustafson said, “Our teams brought home two state trophies to proudly display in the halls of CHS. The Speech team brought home second in place in Class C speech sweepstakes and our drama Team, aka Harper Anderson, brought home the third place Class C drama sweepstakes.”
Froid’s Reegan Roseleip placed sixth at the state meet in program oral interpretation.
