Cowboys Post Victory Over Red Hawks
The Culbertson Cowboys cruised to a 76-26 home victory over Froid/Lake on Friday, Jan. 31.
Froid/Lake opened the game with a three-pointer by Rylan Young, but the Cowboys ran off the next 17 points. Six points by Dawson Bergum, a three-pointer by Brooks Solem and two baskets by Plenny Williams highlighted the outburst.
A basket by Gavin Deen off a pass from Ian Snyder ended the quarter with Culbertson holding a 23-8 advantage.
Consecutive three-pointers by Young and Carson Kelm led the Red Hawks back to 27-14 during the second quarter.
With the Cowboys holding a 31-15 advanatage, Culbertson scored the final six points of the half on two free throws by Kaden Featherston, an inside shot by Deen and a short jumper by Bergum for a 37-15 margin.
The inside play of Mark Kirkaldie and Bridger Salvevold dominated the third quarter. Culbertson outscored the Red Hawks by a 22-4 margin in the period for a 59-19. Kirkaldie scored 11 and Salvevold added nine points in the period.
Culbertson then scored 17 points in the fourth period.
Top scorers for the Cowboys were Kirkaldie with 15, Salvevold with 11 and Bergum with 10.
Also scoring were Deen with eight, Solem with seven, Williams with six, Mauricio Mena with five, Featherston with four, Cal Steppler with three, Snyder with three, Reese Moon with two and Aden Drake with two.
Young led the Red Hawks with eight points. Also scoring were Kelm with five, Eduardo Orozco with four, Cody Olson with three, Jacob Nordlund with three, Joseph Robertson with two and Teegan Fossum with one.
