Cowboys Score Win Over Savage
Culbertson’s boys’ basketball squad scored a key 5040 home win over Savage in District 2C action on Friday, Feb. 7.
The Cowboys held a 26-21 half-time lead, but Savaage closed the gap to 32-29 late in the third quarter. Baskets by Brooks Solem and Ian Snyder put Culbertson up 36-29 to end the period.
After hoops by Culbertson’s Mark Kirkaldie and Dawson Bergum opened the fourth period, Savage’s Sayer Erickson accounted for a three-point play to cut the margin to 40-32.
Adden Erickson connected on a three-pointer to pull the Warriors to 41-37 with 3:58 remaining.
The Cowboys responded with a nice insive move by Gavin Deen and a fast-break drive by Solem to put the margin at 45-37.
After Savage’s Zane Pilgerim hit a three-pointer to cut the gap to 45-40 with 2:28 left, the Cowboys struck for the game’s final five points on a drive by Soleum, a basket by Deen off a sharp pass from Kirkaldie and a free throw by Kirkaldie.
Kirkaldie finished with 14 points. Bridger Salvevold scored nine points. Solem and Deen added eight points each.
Also scoring for the Cowboys were Plenny Williams with five, Bergum with four and Snyder with two.
In the girls’ game, Savage won by a 36-24 final.
After leading by a 15-7 halftime margin, the Warriors increased the gap to 26-9 in the third quarter.
Aspen Peterson led Savage with 11 points.
