Cowboys Defeat Bainville


The Culbertson Cowboys put together an impressive second quarter en route to a 57-41 conference victory in Bainville on Friday, Feb. 14.
After leading by only a 12-9 margin in the first quarter, the Cowboys ran off 14 straight points during second quarter action.
Ahead by a 14-10 score, Culbertson started its run on an inside basket by Mark Kirkaldie. Consecutive three-pointers by Plenny Williams increased the gap to 22-10.
After Gavin Deen scored off a nice pass from Williams, Bridger Salvevold connected on a pair of free tosses. Williams scored inside for a 2810 margin.
Bainville’s Reed Winn hit a three-pointer to end Culbertson’s streak. A drive by Salvevold and a tip-in by Ian Snyder put the Cowboys up 34-13 at intermission.
The scoring of Dawson Bergum and Salvevold led Culbertson to a 41-17 advantage during the first couple of minutes of the third quarter.
The Bulldogs battled back with nine straight points on a drive by Isaiah Bjorge, four points by Wilson and a three-pointer by Winn.
Kirkaldie connected from three-point range and the Cowboys held a 44-28 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Top scorers for Culbertson were Salvevold with 19, Williams with 12 and Deen with 10 points.
Also scoring were Kirkaldie with nine, Brooks Solem with three, Bergum with two and Snyder with two.
Winn finished with 16 points to lead the lead the Bulldogs. Parker Berwick added eight points. Wilson and Bjorge had seven points each. Kaiden Holmes scored three points.
